Hi Gordon,
It is straight from the owners manual. Could be the guys writing the manual never went out and looked down the tube.
I took it for a drive to the next town, about 8 miles each way. drove it reasonably aggressively and had no issues going to town. Came home a different route, with a long uphill climb. Going up it, the gauge moved up to 200, and she started spewing antifreeze all over the hood. Again no steam as you would get through boiling over.
After I turned off the main road, onto a smaller road towards my house I pulled over to wipe the windshield clean. I pulled the radiator cap and the water was circulating nicely, but alas, there were some air bubbles percolating up. So, indicators point toward a head gasket.
I rebuilt the heads last year, and put new head gaskets in at that time. I did not go back and re-torque them, perhaps that is the cause of this? I am not seeing oil in the antifreeze (brown scum) or antifreeze in the pan. Any chance re-torquing the heads at this point could fix this or is the damage done at this point?
Thanks,
Tim
