On my power wagon i recently open the front end of the drag link , there was nearly a 3/4 of a inch of play .When i opened it the spring was broken in the middle . I posted help and got some advice it was correct , the problem on my drag link it was installed backwards so the front was the back and back was the front > I assembled it correctly and am satisfied to a point . He is what i discovered ,lookin in the end of the drag link with the parts removed the is a hole in tyhe drag link ,this hole will accept the bumper . looking closer and trying out different scenarios for assembly . the bumper accepts the spring and exceeds the bumper by a faction . in the end of the link there is a recess that centers the spring over the hole in the end of the drag link , were the bumper would work back and for against the spring .so in this assembly the spring went in the drag link first the bumper when in spool end first to hold the spring , spring centered on the recces in the drag link . then the two sockets around the knuckle tighten it up this way gave a snug fit and no play and if you forced the link hard could see the spring and bumper working in conjunction with the link . which you would allow for changes in the positions of the steering box (sprung weight) to the (unsprung axle ) and changes in deflection from road shock . question one ) why the hole ,in the link that accepts the bumper why the recess machine part in the end of the drag link that accepts the spring perfectly as a base for the spring . 2 looking at the picture o the parts page 2 -4 mention this is a parts display picture not a assembly # if you assemble as per sheet 2 4 the spring when you tighten up the plug almost certainly takes up the minimal amount of 'free spring' in the coil . So the spring has NO spring left because it is collapsed around the bumper .5 the bumper is thin at the sleeved part were the spring is and that is were i am concerned per haps the assembly could be should be different ~ Copey
