None of the posters here have killed themselves with split rims.

At least none of the widows have emailed us to say so. ;)

Like any other mechanical contrivance, study it enough to understand how it works before using it.

There are several different designs of "split rims". Two piece, three piece, bolt together,... I suspect the most hazardous is NOT the Dodge wheels. They seem to have an undercut lip at the rim/ring interface. On assembly, the tire bead keeps the split ring from coming out of it's groove. If everything is clean and fresh, the air pressure in the tube locks the ring to the rim. Problems arise with bent and dirty parts that don't permit the proper seating together of the parts.

I've queried this site, and have found nobody that has had a rim problem, except for one rim the came apart at the rust line, NOT at the rim/ring interface. Split rims are NOT fool proof, but the problems are few and far between.
