The old guys with knowledge of trucks made in the 40's and 50's are few and far between, but if you can find an old mechanic who has been working on cars and trucks for 40 years, and can make friends with him, it will help. Some times these guys are willing to share their knowledge with you if you show them you are sincere. I wish I had paid more attention to my old friend, Chuck Davis, a mechanic all of his life. A wealth of knowledge died with him.
Be careful while disassembling anything. The parts are rare. Save anything that you remove, expecting to have to fix it or hunt down another, or maybe even make one or have a new made. JH
