You may not notice the engine running hot by the temp gauge, but if you had a headgasket failure that is the key. That tube sends coolant up to the cylinder head area. On my engine the engine was always a little on the hot side but ran fine. Then one day the headgasket failed. So a new headgasket was installed then a second gasket failed. I check with some guys and they said check the water tube behind the water pump. I sad what? So I pulled the pump and found NO tube. Got 1 from VPW and case closed, No more trouble. YOU NEED TO INSTALL ONE. PS no oil in water, only in water jacket.
