I've met lots of sellers that talk like that. They want a high price and if they don't get it, it's going to the crusher next week. It may or may not go to the crusher but they just think they're gonna get their price by yanking your chain like that. The idea is you're already in love with the truck and the thought of having it crushed would break your heart so you'll pay their high price. At least that's the way they're thinking. I suppose if they're selling a dog they'd say if they don't get $500 for it, they'll take it out next week and shoot it.

With a jerk like that, you know it's not going to be a friendly deal, so you just make him an offer and walk away. Or just walk away. There's no point in even arguing the crusher part and the price of scrap because as soon as you start on the "why would you crush this" angle, he'll know you're in love with it. There are also some guys who get their jollies scrapping stuff that would have been worth real money. Sometimes they're not even rationally greedy.

I wonder what happens if you send your buddy over next week with a winch trailer and he tell the guy that he's buying scrap and will give him $300 cash for it as is where is.
