You might be the one to know. My 51 ffPW has an early 2nd series bed. So the bed wood is like the 1st series. The wood is in decent shape but is definitely weathered. My question is this. It appears that several section of wood in my be were made up of 2 or 3 pieces of wood that were edge glued. I say this because they have parted along the joints and the wood on either side has a different grain. Additionally these joints are not parallel to the edge of the "board" so the pieces in each board are tapered. Was it common for the bed boards to be "made" from multiple boards then cut to size?? Just wondering.
