I have been curious about your truck for a while. Have you ever sought a build card for it? I have one that was made in San Leandro as well with a serial number that is very close to yours. Last three digits of mine are 061 and yours is 183 the rest are the same. Mine also has the USMC bed with a 54 date.

Also like yours the truck fenders were never painted black but looks as if the original color on mine was dark green. My bed looks to have had at one point a cargo rack like yours but missing now.

My thought process is that these two trucks were government trucks sold as cab chassis and fitted later by the government with this Anthony Hydraulics Motor Truck Bodies style USMC This would make these beds original to these trucks at least.

My motor was a military 230 same as an M-37 without a T245 number painted army green. Has a Japan US Army Depot rebuild tag. Has no evidence of ever being swapped out.

These Anthony beds are super duty. They look and fit well. I'm doing a frame up restoration and keeping the Anthony on it.

Has anyone here experienced any others that may be government fitted?

Just curious, Jackson
