My unit in VietNam (I was there June/June 1969/70) had one of these. It was assigned to the unit armorer/mail guy. He hauled mail, weapons, parts and ammo with it.
I never paid too much attention to it, but I know it had all U.S. markings an it and I'm pretty sure there was nothing to indicate anything but U.S. on the data plates.
I didn't know the history of it, just that it was there when I rotated in, and was still there when I rotated out. But I do know that our unit had a couple other vehciles (M38a1 and M151a1) that may of had "questionable" ownership....
