The PW we have here has a 360 engine with 435 gearbox, 4:89 diff gears and centered WC3/4 ton rear axle driven from the Ebrake. At 55 mph there is no more noise from the drive train than you would have from a 1980s pickup. Also it may not be nesesary to use the centered axle. The 50s dodge step vans had an offset engine and centered axle that did not have problems with u-joint wear, so you can probably keep your original axle and drive from the Ebrake which would be a lot easier to do. You still have low and high range nothing changes except that you no longer need hearing protection!
