I bought a '63 W200 with what appeared to be major oil leaks.
I changed the old cannister style oil filter, and added the new gasket that came with the filter. The old filter was not bolted on real tight.
I wiped off a lot of the oil that I could see, and now, more than a month later, I have no leaks leaving a mess on the ground.
Best bet I would suggest is to check the simple things first, and make sure everything is tight underneath, then clean it up good and wait and see.
