Charlie,
I agree with you that (mine is an m37 with lock rites F/R) a stock old dodge w/ lockers is a VERY formidable off road machine. When driven properly and with care (this is much more important than most realize in a day of "stab & steer" 4x4's) truly amazes most "modern" off road types.
However, it is my understanding that the Ramp Travel Index is measured with all four tires in contact with ramp or ground. In that situation the stock truck would be limited by its lack of travel. In the real world this would not stop the truck w/ lockers so suddenly.
I always feel the forte of the Dodge is to do an off road challenge while carrying a load. "Lets go on a trail with 3000-4000 lbs of fire wood in the bed!" Now that is pulling.
