Brake Booster Counseling Needed!

Saturday my friend Matt and I pulled a single diaphram brake booster off a 59' D500. As we were pulling the various parts Matt enlightened me about how it DOES get the vacuum from the engine. Now don't ask me how I thought it was going to work WITHOUT some help from the engine, my thought process is more like a breakdown in the slow lane at times. So how hard is this to hitch up going from a L-6 to a 318 in my 61' W200?
Also I puled the different-than-mine-looking brake master cause I thought with the obviously longer pushrod it had something to do with the booster. Upon closer inspection of the 61-65 shop manual this is the one I'm supposed to have anyways. Now the funny thing is the set-up on mine when I bought it and on the 2 other early 60's W Power Wagons in the junk yard have the brake master looking just like the clutch master whereas according to the manual and the 59' D500 THEY DO NOT! What gives? As always thanks to any and all for any guidance!
