Yes, Navistar is working ona 6.0L V8 Powerstroke more powerful than the current motor. they are also working on cam-less motors using the same high pressure oil system actuated by electronically controlled solenoid valves for 2003-4. And I read in "Diesel Progress" about 4.5L V6 versions of same for SUVs.
As far as transmissions, GM finally has worken up and started using Allisons. I wouldn't buy an automatic behind one of these diesels unless it is an Allison. The Chrysler 47RE, GM 4L80E or Ford 700R4E all are just beefed up worked over big car automatics derived from the V8 powered barges of the "dinosaur age" of passenger cars. Not what you want behind a diesel that puts out 520 ft-lb @ 1800 and that's rated for a GCWR (truck + trailer) of 26,000 lb.
