I agree with you Mike on nothing wrong with points ,I remember when E ignition first showed up on the scene .I believe for North American cars it was Chrysler . Personally i could never see the reason why auto makers went to in the 70s 80s ( i could be wrong about the date, long time ago) I am sure it was for pollution reasons at the same time e ignition along with a almost double spark plug gap 60 thou . cars were running leaner and required unleaded gas only ,some how there must have been a need for elec ignition perhaps the higher voltage at the plugs .I dont know about a reliability issue for making the move but there was less maintenance on cars once E ign had been around ,I prefer points because of the simplicity .I cant honestly tell you which is,was the better system since there has been 40 plus years of it around ~ Copey
