Attention Marty (and others), I am attempting to mount a spare tire on the front drivers side of the bed of this truck (9' utiline bed), where one did not previously exist (no signs of mounting holes being patched up). The tires are Michelin 9.00-16 XZL. The rims are modern one piece Firestones and I believe the backspacing is close to, if not exactly the same as, the factory rims (at least they appear that way when mounted on the truck). My question is the spare tire mount I bought does not have adequate spacing measured from the outside face of the bed side to the backside of the rim to accomodate said spare. The spare mount is a reproduction from one of the reputable sources listed on this site, so I don't think that is the problem. The stud on this tire mount is large and has a Budd lug nut (WDX - WM300 series). Do I have an incorrect spare tire mount? What is the correct one for this year and series of truck? Going from memory, I think the total depth of the tire mount is around 5.50" and I need somewhere in the neighborhood of 10", and that is with the sidewall of the tire sitting tight against the top rail of the bed side. What should be a straightforward job is apparently not so... What gives?
