Ken,
When I put the electronic ignition in mine, (pertronix) the wiring diagram had several options. One was to eliminate the resistor, the other showed leaving it there but bringing the power in and out on the same terminal, effectively bypassing it. Then if you needed to go back to the points, you swap the wires around to put the resistor back in service. Been a bit over a year so a bit fuzzy but I think I have that right.
