I was in Athens about 38 years ago courtesy of the USN. From what I remember of it it was a interesting city but even back then they had military walking around with rifles I guess that had some political problems back then also. The big stop for us sailors was a wine festive you paid a entrance fee and could go from vat to vat testing wine.
