Haven't you ever had to push a car with PS? Turn the wheel, and the pump overflows.

I guess the inherent 40:1 gearing allows you to cavitate on one end of the piston while you push fluid out the other end of the system.

So far as your usual leak, is the cooler lower than the reservoir?
