... the greatest gift you can give your truck, but...

There are a lot of things that can go wrong with your fuel system and cause intermittent problems:

- Junk in the tank, leaves, float bits, stuff kids put in there, etc.

- Rust on the inside of the tank, keeps making more flakes to block the intake

- Stupid little holes on the suction side of the system that come and go as they please. Check your fittings too.

- Rubber tubing on the suction side that separates and looks fine on the outside, while being collapsed on the inside.

- Fussy carb inlet needles that have imperfections on them (or the float frame)

- And of course modern replacement mechanical fuel pump diaphragms and check valves that have the lifespan of a fruit fly when exposed to gas-a-hol.

These are a few of my favorite things...

I found a decent pump a Checker Auto of all places. You need to mount it as low as you can and as close as you can with respect to the fuel tank. Don't expect these things to pull fuel like a mechanical - they won't, and the failure is, you guessed it, intermittent.

Oh, by the way, remember that fuel is flammable - explosive in fact. We had us a (fortunately) little reminder of that there fact recently. Spending any amount of time soaked in gasoline is a really bad idea...
