starter motor

The starter in my '49 B1 has had problems since I bought the truck. I assumed the problem was going to be a combination of worn bendix gear and worn ring gear. I pulled the starter yesterday. The main problem was the top bolt had never been tightened completely, and this was allowing the housing to sag, preventing a full meshing of the two gears. The bendix was badly worn, but thankfully the ring gear is not. I put a new gear in and everything works great. That top bolt is a tough one. You can only make micro turns at best.
