There is nothing wrong ethically with this as far as I am concerned. But don't try to register it in Pa.

When I bought my first PW it was a 1949. The original owner sold it in 1957 to the grandfather of the guy I bought it from. Original owner signed the back of the title and also signed a bill of sale. I have both the original title and the bill of sale in my possession. Grandfather used the truck on the farm and never transferred the title to his name.

Back in the 60's and 70's if you sold a car in Pa you signed the back of the title and gave it to the new owner. The new owner took it to a local notary, a car dealer, or the DMV and got a new title in the new owners name.
Sometime in the late 80's that changed. I sold a truck, signed the title. An hour later the new owner was back. "You have to come with me and sign again in front of a notary and provide proof of who I am."

A title signed by the owner was no longer good enough to transfer or get a new title.

So I ended up using Broadway Title Co in Alabama to get a title for my truck.
