It is much easier on engines because of the higher octane. Slower burning flame front gets more power to the piston smoothly. Cheap gas can knock and also burn valves. I put roughly 10% in my '53 B3 Power Wagon mostly to keep the gas from rotting over the long times my truck sits sometimes. There isn't nearly as much lead in it as before - they keep reducing it - so not much chance of lead fouling. The main point is that it is stable over long times. It isn't just a myth about the guy who bought acres of old planes after WWII. People thought he was nuts at the time, but he knew the military stored planes with full tanks to minimize corrosion just in case they needed to resurrect them some day. He made all his money back and then some by just filling tank trucks and selling the fuel. Back then they probably were mostly 130 octane, the green stuff. 100LL is blue. Handy because the dye will show you where a leak is, even if just enough to evaporate.
