Thats were the diesel engine shines , always argued that a three hundred horse power gas engine has the same power as a three hundred hp diesel .In theory yes but in reality no torque is thee power factor a gas motor develops most of its power at high rpms ,when the motor begins to slow ,such as climbing a steep grade rpms drop off and so does HP and torque were as a diesel has torque at a low rpm and can hold it .I remember(at a time ) that all trucks came with gas engines large displacement and long stroked cranks . I had worked on most of these gas pots heavy, simple ,and used lots of gas but ,gas was cheap and you could get gas anywhere diesel was uncommon in out back today everybody carries diesel . As the transmissions became larger and people accepted the diesel the popularity climbed and phased out old iron . The engine in the picture, i did work on them and did drive them from 1960 to about sixty five plenty of power and torque because of power over lap of the 12 cylinders . ~ Copey
