I agree with Doug. Ya gotta keep both axles. =) I used to drive a 2 six-bits Cummins in a '54 KW. It had been a log truck at one time but I was pulling with a 5th wheel. Those era Pete's and KW's were common as log trucks and yes, you do see some of that vintage still in service occasionally. Not sure I'd want to do 500 plus miles in a day like we do now though.
I could figure out how to drive that thing although I never drove a 3 box job before. Some of those gears have to overlap if not a whole bunch of them. BTW, if those brownies are like every other one I've ever seen, that rig would have double OD in it and would fly if it still has the power it used to have.
I have a CDL and currently drive an '03 Pete/475 Cat/10 speed hauling crushed cars out of wrecking yards around OR and WA.
