Chief Watertender Oscar Vernon Peterson
died of his wounds on May 13,1942 and was
awarded the Medal of Honor on Dec 7, 1942
the Medal was mailed to his widow and there
was never a formal ceremony.
He was buried at sea.
There is now a Medal of Honor Plaque at the
Richfield Cemetary along with a 48 star flag
and a Medal of Honor Flag which will fly 24/7
