I never re-adjust the heels. I think that was the SOP. The manuals all cover new installation. I would need somebody to find a specific mention of re-adjusting to argue it. Plus, the heel being right next to the adj, hardly wears.

As new shoes seat to the drum, they become the exact perfect match. Any re-adjustment of the heel is bound to make the fit imperfect, leading to too much toe contact and grabbing brakes.

So, I readjust by feel. Jack up the one wheel, and spin it while turning the upper snail. Just a bit of friction, maybe just to hear the shoe rub. Any bit of tightening will be an improvement, no need to go too far. Shouldn't slow the wheel down, too tight leads to overheating.
