If you figure the truck is 6000 lbs, that doesn't mean 1500 lbs per wheel. The 5700/6000 lbs is empty weight and the front is heavier than the rear. Then also, it's nice to not have to unload the truck to change a tire. It's also very handy to be able to use a floor jack to jack up the whole front end or the whole rear end, with the jack under the pumpkin, so you can put it on jack stands all at once.

So, I'm thinking that a jack that's good for two honest tons (not sure how many Chinese tons that is) would probably be the minimum. The standard "heavy duty" Chinese floor jacks that everbody and his brother sells these days seem to be rated at 3 tons so that would be about right. I have two of them and haven't broken them yet, though I don't believe they could really lift 3 tons. Even if money is no object, a floor jack is a compromise with how much space it takes up, how easy it is to move it around, and how fast it pumps. I think I've seen 20 ton units that they use on the big rigs, but that would be overkill and a lot of bother even if you got one for free.
