The later models used a pressurized cap.

My own truck has the pressurized cap in a deep neck. So I made a 1/2" thick spacer out of aluminum. Needs a rubberized cork gasket under the spacer. Plus, you may need to make a paper gasket to seal the top of the cap against the neck, so it will suck coolant back in.

Spacers used to be available, made from brass sheet, in hollow construction. Haven't seen one in loooong years.
