take a razor knife cut all the execes gasket and silicone that is showing here in the picture .what i am seeing sticking out isnt sealing anything any way get a small mirrior not your head and look again if its is the filter base great i think theres a O ring when you take that housing apart or a gasket depends on year and application easy fix but i would only take it apart if i seen a drip come out of that spin on filter base but i am of a suspicious nature when it comes to leaks with hot oil> what i have seen cause leaks at the filter housing when rough handling engine block before a rebuild or prior installation or removal people bang the block with filter on upsets the fit of the base ~ Copey
