I agree, think it would have been easier to weld or bolt a tab on the top edge for the crank handle, or just mount the bumper a little higher. Amazing they kept this style of bumper on the FFPW's and even the late M601's that don't even have a drive dog or hole through the radiator for a crank handle. Guess once the tooling was made they just kept going.
In my build I used a straight section welded between the original ends and think that looks good.
