I don't know for sure how Dodge truck prices compared to the other automakers back in the 60s and 70s, but I believe they were a bit higher. I also think the other automakers might have had a better jump on advertising. Ford did a pretty good job of marketing their twin I beam suspension. A lot of people go for price and hype over quality.
