That could be an issue with something in your electrical system. An electrical gauge works on changing resistance in the sensor to change either voltage or current through the gauge. A problem with any part of the circuit will make the gauge read incorrectly.

Might want to test the voltage from the gauge to the sensor. If it changes when you speed up the engine the problem is with your electrical system somewhere.
