I should have known Ranger were Mazdas because I have a whole pile of NOS Ranger/Mazda parts that nobody wants. I wouldn't say Mazdas were Rangers in disguise, though. I think it was the other way around because the parts have Japanese writing on the labels.

As you know, I don't believe the "pedal stuck in the floor mat" theory for a minute. I'm sure the problem is electronic and would have been solved by now if they'd incorporated some thorough data-logging and used it. There's more to it than that, though. There are probably similar intermittent problems on other drive-by-wire vehicles, though maybe not as bad. There are confused/senile driver, and there are incompetent drivers who panic and don't do the right thin once the problem occurs. There's a story in the news today of a woman driving a Prius whose "throttle" got stuck, so she called 911, where the operator eventually managed to talk her through stopping the car. Obviously if she'd been thinking, she could have done the same thing without calling 911. I'm not even saying Toyota hasn't tried to cover up the problems. I'm just saying that the government has an incentive now to make GM look good and make Toyota look bad.
