consider the thought process that goes into choosing the toyota prius as your vehicle and then you get closer to understanding what happened today. in order to make the plunge, you HAVE to buy into the hype of a gas (not diesel)hybrid, you have to believe that driving around in said vehicle provides some environmental benefit and you likely want others to see you being green. you have to believe the sacrifice is noble and is greater than the risk you run of driving a car with live 600v wiring and a large flammable battery in it. it is more expensive and gets only marginally better mileage than an equivalent compact gas sipper. in all, it is a poor choice of vehicle no matter how you look at it whatever your intended use is. i believe that over the long run these prius hybrid type vehicles will hit a snag where the battery replacement becomes prohibitively expensive or new technology will make them obsolete. do you really believe that someone driving such a vehicle thinks laterally enough to understand mechanics, automotive systems or how to shut down a run away vehicle? think about it. the guy called the police as he tooled along at 60 mph instead of shifting to neutral or shutting it off. if it turns out that he could not shift it or shut it because it is 100% drive by wire, I prove my point above. i believe this guy was sick of driving a prius and he will be found out to be a hoax. dodge content- picking up the diesel mega cab soon. taking the kids across country in said vehicle to distribute diesel fumes while stimulating local economies. any town with a good local bbq stand between arizona and ny is fair game!
