The saga continues... As of today the only thing left for me to do is remove the bull gear and shaft from the winch housing. Sounds simple enough, but this has proven to be more difficult than seperating the drum from the shaft.

Once I had the drum and sliding clutch pulled off, removed the bolts for the worm cover, the shaft moved forward about 1/2" and got tight. I managed to do this while pushing down on the winch housing with the end of the shaft on a block of wood.

I tried using a 3 lb sledge and another block of wood, tapping on the winch housing to try and coax the housing further down the shaft, no luck. Eventually got brave enough to pick the whole housing up and drop it on the block of wood, the gear is sticking out about an inch now. I have soaked it with PB Blaster for 24hrs, not much help there either.

Last resort is trying heat with an oxy/acetelene torch, but I am worried about warping the shaft... or find someone with a big press and see if they can get it unstuck.

Any suggestions??
