.jpg 95% of the time, sometimes it will end in .gif, .bmp, .tif, and others. If it ends in .htm, or .php etc it wont work.
If you are using Internet Explorer you will sometimes get a weird result in the properties window, this most likely means that image can not be directly linked.
If you are unsure paste the link both in the "Optional Image Link" and in the body of your post, people can see what the URL is, and explain why it didn't work if the image does not automatically show up.
