As David said below, It is Receiving stolen property plain and simple. To me, there is NO difference between a thief, Police Department or the impound lot. If the piece of property was stolen from your property the OWNER should not have to pay a dime. The guilty party should be forced to either pay or work off his debt for said wrongdoing.
This is a total racket that we have let come into existance and should be stopped. The owner does ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong and your forced to pay to retieve your own property?
Think of this scenario. You have stolen property on your property and police come to retrieve it. Tell them you have storage/impound fees they need to pay before releasing the stuff back. The only difference here is that you are a registered buisness probably. See how they react when the tables are turned.
Just steams me the way law abiding people ALWAYS have to pay and criminals don't because they don't have the cash or anything worth taking.
With the amount of vehicles taken in this case, your into felony charges on scrap price alone. Fight them Chris and good luck, Kevin
