Immediately prior to D-Day, allied vehicles that took part in the D-Day landings had the circle added to the star. This was to thwart German attempts to disguise their vehicles using Allied markings. It was also done to expedite visual identification by friendly air craft.

Allied aircraft supporting the D-Day landings were marked with black and white stripes on the wings.

Once the areas controlled by opposing forces became more clearly identified, these distinctive vehicle and aircraft markings were not deemed to be as important.

These markings were not used in other theaters.

Except for those Dodge half-tons that were in the Phillipines, the half-tons were never deployed into cmbat with the US Army. Half-tons were shipped to our allies, primarily Russia and England under programs like "Lend Lease" and saw combat with those forces. Incidently, the Japanese captured and used the Phillipine Dodges throughout the war in that area.
