Is that true, that you can't buy the good "Chem-Dip" carb cleaner buckets any more? I guess I'll nurse my two cans along as far as possible by cleaning everything really well with gasoline before putting them in the Chem-Dip. As I recall, that stuff has methylene chloride to cut the grease, some sort of phenol that gives it its unique smell and maybe cuts the carbon deposits, some magic oil on top to keep the methylene chloride from evaporating, and a dichromate to passivate the bare aluminum and leave that nice non-corroding yellowish finish. Yes, they should probably just call it "haz-mat in a can", but it sure works well on carbs and fuel pumps. If it's true that the good stuff has been discontinued, I better check our small-town auto parts stores and see if they have any left. There sure seem to be a lot of things we have to stock up on before they're banned these days.

As for the el-cheapo soda blaster, it sure seems unlikely that he got such perfect results with such a simple setup, including down in the crevices, but on the other hand, why lie about it? It's not like he's trying to sell baking soda and vinyl tubing or ask you to send $10 to his paypal account for an "e-book" on the subject. Maybe it works and maybe it doesn't. It seems easy enough to try it.

It looks to me like what he's built is pretty much identical to those $5 harbor freight engine cleaning guns where you stick the end of the hose in a bucket of gasoline, and use air pressure to suck it up and spray it onto your greasy motor until your buddy comes over and lights a cigarette and you discover how fuel/air explosives were invented.
