Sticker says the bucket is rated for 600 lbs. Me and all the gear I could think of carrying doesn't add up to half that. So if I hung 600 lbs from it, ran the boom all the way out, and bounced it up and down a few times, that should either prove that it's safe, tip the truck over on its side, or crack things just enough that later when I'm up there with only half the weight, it'll break the rest of the way.

As far as alternate methods, there is an odd little tiny 3-position valve mounted below the main valve body at the bucket. It doesn't seem to be attached to anything, but now I'm wondering if that was originally some kind of bypass to allow a guy to let himself down in an emergency. I will have to look and see if there are plugged ports on the main valve body that might have been connected to it at one time. Have you ever heard of a boom truck having such a thing?
