Does the 12 volt motor run its own separate pump or does it drive the main pump? If a separate pump, are the two pumps hooked in parallel, or is there a selector valve or check valves attached to them?

In my case, that wouldn't have helped at all, since the problem was no fluid. What I'd need, I think is a way to bypass the safety valves on the cylinders to let the rams retract under the force of gravity (slowly) even if the rest of the system was empty. The only other complicated hydraulic system I'm familiar with is my POS JD 2010 backhoe. When its engine dies, which is most of the time, you can still set the boom and the loader down.
