Hey Bill. I use a Miller 225 MIG and as long as I follow the chart and take my time, things hold together. You said yourself you were in a hurry and it was under designed. Think of the leverage of a blade full of snow against those welds. And if you hit a curb or a rock, well..as Tom said "there is No doubt in my mind that Bill will correct this and have no further issues with it unless he really hits something real hard next time.
Then he will have bigger problems."
Your connection to the truck frame needs to be either "L" or "U" shaped and bolted through the sides of the mount, and through the frame. The box type frames on newer trucks actually make this connection a little more difficult, and maybe a little weaker. I would use 3/8" minimum plate and 5/8" minimum bolts. JH
