the mount is welded for now but will be getting some attention as soon as a few other things get fixed. I don't know why the rivet is missing but, the holes are pretty well lined up, and thus the purpose of the weld, not to repair but, just to make sure it doesn't move. this truck was seriously abused by the phone company until at least 1985, and there are a lot of strange things on it, and done to it. The shackle itself isn't welded. but has been relocated under the frame and upgraded because the originals were long beyond any hope of repair what's welded is just the hanger, it is also reinforced with strap, and double bolted through the frame to make sure there's no chance of it peeling off. Six States actually suggested this repair, apparently they used it on a regular basis for older jeep's and trucks to replace the "C" shackles as they are prone to a fair about of lateral shifting and wear. I trust them. their mechanics do nothing but 4x4 conversions, upgrades, fabrication and repair. we used 3/8 plate with a pipe welded in the middle, and polyurethane bushings, grade 8 bolts and lock nuts to keep everything in place. so far, so good.
