You can choose to agree or disagree but here is why rods loosen on old iron and you get broken pistons, bent rods, worn crank pins and rod knocks > simple it s the ignition timing nothing else will pop a rod quicker than booting down the road high gear high range and and lugging up a hill > if your ignition timing doesnt advance mechanicaly and/or vacum advance > when the spark goes off and the timming is late all the engergy from the fuel air mix hits bang on TOP DEAD CENTER and that equals a thousand mile trips every time ,hitting on a up and coming cylinder thats all thats its that simple > key to long engine life is stay on top of your ignition timing > points (rubbing block) and distrubuter bushings ware waer wear what ever and on the old gassers on fleet service or in indusrtial > would see the timming light often so ~ Copey
