The best bet for this conversion if you just want a great driver & not planning to turn the power up at all...look for an 89-91 non intercooled Cummins truck & pretty much all the parts will just swap right in. You'll have to play with wiring etc but basically everything will fit & work even with the factory wiring...you just won't have the grid heaters etc unless you run some relays etc & get them working. Pretty straight forward swap...just don't try to do it without a pretty much complete parts truck or it'll cost triple. These trucks can be had now a day for like $2000 so it's an economical & worth while project.
Making an intercooler fit from a post 91 Cummins truck makes for lots more work but that can be fit in there too...just lots of rad support modifications & cutting.
It really depends what you're trying to accomplish.
If you're happy with 150hp...go the easy route. If you want more...go the extra & get a post 94 5.9 & make sure you run an intercooler.
