The real and mostly unknown story was that Dodge and Triumph were collaborating on a project to offer a flathead 6 repowered Triumph Spitfire. Unfortunately, labor issues in England got out of hand and the deal was scrapped, leaving Dodge with thousands of specially cast heads saying Spitfire. Not being ones to let parts go to waste, the marketing wonks came up with the idea to use them on their current production engines. Thus the Dodge Spitfire engine.
As Paul Harvey would have said, Now you know the rest of the story!
