It would move the off set from one side to the other, so no sense moving it at all- except to make a 6x6. But the real 6xt used a centered axle in front, an offset to the rear. The rear drive shaft had a pillow block on the shoulder of the front axle's differential bulge.

The only point I can see to having the rear off set is to allow it to follow the front, in the same grove in deep mud.
