Hi Steve, I don't know anything about axles. From what I gather...4340 is the material of choice. Some feel 4140 offers more give & less break...that's what Dodge switched to on the 3rd Gen Cummins trucks but many feel they are inferior.
I think Daniel Tibus's axles he made for the M37's were 4340 but I seem to remember someone breaking one?? BZ??
Anyway, there's certainly more knowledgeable folk on here with better knowledge of steel & machining than I but I still somehow remember Steve F talking about Moser or one of the big axle guys running off a bunch...no??
