Door escutcheon color

I am working on my doors and in doing so I removed the paint overspray (from a previous owner) that was on the inner door window crank and opener lever's escutcheon. These plastic pieces are a medium brown color.
What is the proper way to handle this; were they left this brown color when leaving the factory or were they painted body color? I know the metal panel for the inside of the door is supposed to be black.
